"A Look Back ... Images of Herrin's Past - Volume II" HAHS Mtg Oct 2014

This was a fantastic slide show program by Lisa.  There was an all time attendance record of 60 for this, the third of Lisa's slide show presentations.  Lots of input from the attendees, questions and answers regarding interesting photos from Herrin's past:  residents, places, events, and memories.

Here's some of Phil's photo ops from the meeting:

Doris Frey (L) and LISA HAUGHT CARNAGHI (R)

Lisa does all the research and creates the slide shows.  Doris just clicks the mouse!  :')

Hope you enjoy our blog.

Come to a real live program at HAHS.
You'll like it even more!

Stotlar Herrin Cemetery Signage Ceremony

Boy Scout Kenneth Weber spearheaded a project to bring new signage to the historical
Stotlar Herrin Family Cemetery.  A special ceremony dedicated the sign on Sunday, September 14, 2014.  Those in attendance included Weber, his Boy Scout Troop, his father, descendants of the Stotlar and Herrin families.  Also, officers and members of the Herrin Area Historical Society who supported and assisted Weber with his project.

Peterson Discusses MLB Players from SI

September 12, 2014                   Herrin Area Historical Society Meeting

Pete Peterson Discussed Major League Baseball Players from Southern Illinois:

He presented the careers/stories of
Ray Chapman, Robert Veach and Ray Fosse.

We had outstanding attendance of 50 local folks, HAHS members and non-members.  This was a very interesting program with lots of MLB stories and a huge amount of information on our area.

Below is the handout that Peterson presented attendees.

Gordon Pruitt arranged the program for September and stood in for
Peterson's exhibit of various pitching skills.

Peterson related that he played ball as a youngster.  He told stories about his experiences and writing about MLB.

He explains the black baseball. . . .  Did you know?

One of his books.

Peterson gave a remarkable review
of Major League Baseball,
his personal experiences
and answered questions from the group.

And that was our Herrin Area Historical Society meeting program for September.
Thanks to Gordon Pruitt for arranging an interesting program, Cheryl Ranchino Trench for all the neat PR and Phillip Stucker, HAHS President for keeping it going.

Hope you enjoy our HAHS Blog and come back again.

Happy End of Summer!
